As a high school journalism adviser, I oversaw the production of the yearbook: a gigantic product that documents the stories, photographs, and historical context of each year. In less than 10 months, we planned, designed, proofed, and published a huge book (300-350 pages), with an official product launch where we released the yearbook to the student body and community in May (a gigantic feat). Repeat x 8 years, with all amateur developers and managers (student editors).
Yearbooks begin with a roadmap that includes a theme, sprint deadlines, product release dates, detailed style guides, and what tools will be used along the way. Working with a cross-functional team, we organized our workflow with Trello and used the scrum framework to accomplish each goal. All of the industry-standard product processes and programs were used in my room - standups, Slack, Adobe CC, automation, marketing emails, product launches, deliverables, etc. It was exhilarating and intense to work with teens to produce something users consumed and criticized.
