JENI DALEY
Design
case study
In 2013, the Lawrence Public Library opened a $20 million renovated space. As the Marketing Coordinator , I played an integral role in the construction process, spearheading the LEED building certification efforts for sustainable design, resulting in the library receiving the National AIA/ALA Library Building Award for design.
As we neared the end of the construction process, the architects passed off the signage package to me. I was responsible for dictating how customers would navigate the space, from large way-finding signage that oriented them to specific sections, to small in-stack signage to find the exact dewey decimal number. I researched, planned concepts, tested ideas with users, picked paint colors, designed every sign, worked with installers to get everything up just in time for opening day.
My process: I utilized the surfaces of necessary support columns to visually represent sections (green for adult fiction, blue for non-fiction, yellow for children's, etc.), included digital signage at major intersection points with digital interactive maps, and designed glass donor signs to recognize the philanthropy of our partners.
